Digg (Thing 6)

In looking at the Most Recent list, there was a graph of the acceptance of velcro shoes. No surprises that young people (0-12) and older people (65+) rated them the highest for the rating, These are nice shoes.

Twitter (Thing 5)

Okay I signed up and have 14 people I am following that I did not click to follow. So now I have to learn how to unfollow.

As far as use in the library world:

Quick reminder about a program that is about to start where to send patrons.
Quick announcements
Let others know about a good book you just finished because you are so exited about it.
Quick reminder about a meeting
See what other libraries are tweeting about.

Some libraries on Twitter:
NPL have a digital pic of the day. Patrons can connect with the library on Flickr.
Birmingham Public Library/Birmingham Alabama. There is an Eventkeeper with event postings and Flickr.
Kansas City announced on Twitter that they have posted the events calendar on Facebook.
Corpus Cristi PL posts announcements about exhibits, programs, book sales.
American Libraries the ALA magazine is tweeting too.

RSS Feeds (Thing 3)

I added Unshelved to my favorites. Could not figure out how to add current feeds to my favorites.
By reading the ALSC blog, I found out about the upcoming medal announcements. I also learned about a neat idea. Libraries can place Bill Harley's @ the library song on your phone system to market the library or just provide warm fuzzy music that reminds them of all of the wonderful things you can get at the library and things you can do in the library.
I also added the ALSC blog and Cnn.com on Outlook so I can receive instant updates.
Patrons can add our blog onto their e-mail so they can recieve updates on something they read throughout the day. Or we could use it to advertise upcoming programs or new services. We could even use it to train patrons with youtube attachments.

Blogs (Thing 2)

Today I added some sites to my google.reader. Two of them are FPL staff blogs. I also have a bloglines account where I receive numerous feeds on from ALSC to crazy children's books author Mo Willems. One of my favorites is Read Roger. He is editor of Horn Book. His entries are insightful, humerous and sophisticated.
Setting up the google.reader was very easy. I only added a few sites since I already have my bloglines account.
